Dr. Dan Worrall
“Pleasant Bend—Upper Buffalo Bayou and the San Felipe Trail in the 19th Century”


Dr. Worrall extensively researches the “nearly forgotten” rural areas where pioneers settled and lived 150 years prior to the sprawling westward growth of Houston. European settlement began at Piney Point in 1824, over a decade before Houston was founded. Ox wagons traveled across seemingly endless tallgrass prairie along the San Felipe Trail, built in 1830.

Ann Dunphy Becker
“Houston 1860—1900”

Ann Dunphy Becker will present a history of the Houston area from 1860 through 1900. Ann is the author of several historical books, and is involved with many historical organizations in the Houston area. She is the owner of Becker’s Bookstore on Westview Dr. in Houston.

Kendall Miller
“William Giddings Farrington”

Kendall Miller is the grandson of William Giddings Farrington, noted developer of shopping centers and homes in Houston and Bellaire in the 1940s-1950s. Kendall will speak on the continuance of his grandfather's legacy on the founding of Tanglewood subdivision and the family property on Post Oak Blvd. William Farrington hired excellent architects and required craftsmanship on his buildings. His shopping centers reflect the high quality of his designs that remain icons today.

Audrey Barrett Cook
“Obedience Smith and Her Houston Lands”

Audrey Barrett Cook is a native Houstonian and through her work in Houston real estate became interested in Obedience Smith as her name appeared on many land grants in Houston. Her book, Obedience Smith, Pioneer of Three American Frontiers, reflects years of research into Obedience's extensive and accomplished family. General Sam Houston's aide de camp, judges, politicians, and Indian fighters comprise the Smith decedents.

“The Shamrock”

Jeff Lindemann is a professor at Houston Community College. He knows everything about the Shamrock Hotel and has lots of stories to share.

Katie McCormick
“History of Southside Place”

Katie McCormick is a member of several historic preservation associations as well as co-founder of the Southside Place Preservation Project. She is a co-author of History of Southside place, chronicling the 1924 planning of Southside Place.

Annual Election & Dinner

This is the annual event where Bellaire Historical Society members gather to elect new Directors & Officers for the next season and share a special dinner, followed by a challenging Bellaire Trivia Contest.
